Ezequiel 16
Jerusalem was doing so many bad things. The Sovereign Lord said:
· V.5b – Jerusalem was like an abandoned baby
· V. 6b – God saw her and gave her LIFE
· V.8 – God made a covenant with her like a husband
· V. 13,14 –God provided everything she needed
BUT
· V. 15 - Jerusalem became like a prostitute
· V.17 – with the jewelry made idols
· V.20 – Jerusalem offered sons and daughters as sacrifice
· V.22 – Jerusalem forgot the LORD and His MERCY
· V.32 – Jerusalem has been seen as an adulterous wife by the LORD
· V.49 – Jerusalem became more depraved than Sodom and Samaria
JERUSALEM SIN WORST THAN SODOM
V. 49 – Arrogant, overfed and unconcerned, did not help the poor and needy, were haughty and did detestable things before the LORD.
Arrogance means (dictionary at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/arrogant)
1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others
NIV Proverbs 8:13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
NIV Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
1. We became arrogant when we do not give thanks to the LORD for all blessings received.
NIV 1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
NIV Ezekiel 16:22 In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.
2. We became arrogant when we decide to be independent, never asking the LORD about our lives.
The key phrase used today is: That’s my life!!!
Dependence is the way the child lives. The paradigm is YOU
· You have to take care of me
· YOU are responsible for me
Independence is the way the teenager lives. The paradigm is I.
· I can do this
· I want to go
· I have the right to do this…
Interdependence is the way of maturity. The paradigm is WE.
· We can do this together
· We are responsible for this…
3. We became arrogant when we have no eyes to see the poor and needy
NIV Proverbs 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.
NIV Proverbs 21:13 If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.
Jesus was poor
NIV 2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
The apostles were poor
NIV 2 Corinthians 6:10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
WHAT DOES GOD WANTS ME TO DO? Ez 16.59-63
1. He wants me to remember our ways and be ashamed v.61
2. He wants me to know HIM- v.62
3. He wants me to recognize and be thankful for HIS atonement through JESUS CHRIST our Savior v.63
