4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)

1. TEACH
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, …”
Teach = (greek) Didaskalia = “teaching, instruction, doctrine, precepts”.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. ENDURANCE
“…so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures…”
endurance = (greek) hypomone = a remaining behind, a patient enduring.
Romans 5:3 (NIV)
3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance (hypomone);

3. ENCOURAGEMENT
encouragement = (greek) paraklesis comfort, consolation, exhortation (to call near)
2 Corinthians 1:3 (NIV)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort (paraklesis),
God is the Source of all Endurance and Encouragement
Romans 15:5 (NIV) 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus,

4. HOPE
Rom 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”.
God is our Hope
Psalm 71:5 (NKJV) 5 For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.

God is the Hope of a Nation
Jeremiah 17:13 (NKJV) 13 O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. "Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters."

God's Word is our Hope
Psalm 130:5 (NKJV) 5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.

Hope leads us to a strong life
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
