Acts 1:8
The Holy Spirit:
• He is for TODAY
• Everyone who believes in Jesus is eligible to receive His power
• He transforms us – we experience His power
• He changes us – we become witnesses of His “mighty power”
YOU SHALL: Promise for everyone
RECEIVE: Take, get a hold of – active faith of receiving – requires an action.
POWER: Might, strength, ability, supernatural acts, force.
Mark 16: 17, 18, Acts 1:8, Acts 3:12, Acts 4:7, Acts 4:33, Acts 6:8
You shall receive power – as you obey the commission and commands of Jesus. We are given power to display the Glory of God to be His witnesses.
James 3 – the tongue is untamableThe Holy Spirit chose to bring the tongue under submission to God
Witness: Somebody who gives evidence after seeing or hearing something.Someone who testifies to his or her strong Christian beliefs.
Jesus' promise is to equip us to witness for Him.
Luke 24: Jesus will clothe you in powerMatthew 24:14 Preach in all the world
What keeps us from witnessing? Isaiah 44:8
• Fear
• Lack of knowledge
• Unworthiness – sin in our lives, our testimony is stained
• Outdated relationship with the person of the Holy Spirit
• Becoming religious, instead of powerful in the Holy Spirit
God wants a community that, like Jesus, get's caught up in the transformation of the worldThe Holy Spirit is for today, and for everyone who knows Jesus
Perhaps we have consumed the power on ourselves and missed the point? The power of the Holy Spirit is not so that we can feel good - it's for winning the world. “You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth", this call is for out of the church, not in the church. The power of the Holy Spirit is not for successful living, it's to be a witness of Jesus. We have spent this power on ourselves.
We have received a measure of the Holy Spirit but we are not experiencing His power because
His power brings:
• Harvest of souls
• Healing of sick bodies
• Authority over powers and principalities
The day of Pentecost was a launching of the gospel!
Matt. 24:14, Luke 4:14, Isaiah 61:1
Ministry Time
1. Can you say I want His power in my life?
2. Cry out to God for new power.
3. Receive the power of the Holy Spirit.
4. Be His witness to this world in 2009.
